Mali by Lietta Cavalli 1970s RARE Hand-Knit Mini Dress

Extremely rare Mali by Lietta Cavalli hand-knit dress in layered gold, champagne and pale metallic tones. The open knit is semi-sheer and can be worn front-to-back, with plunging V necklines on both sides and adjustable drawstrings shaping the waist and ruching. Woven from rayon, metallic fibre, acetate, acrylic and nylon, with sculpted underbust detailing and softly voluminous three-quarter sleeves.

Mali was founded in Florence by Lietta Cavalli, sister of Roberto Cavalli, and grew out of the family’s textile atelier. Her hand-worked fabrics, experimental knits and one-of-a-kind pieces formed part of the creative environment that influenced Roberto Cavalli’s own early work. Produced in very limited numbers, original Mali pieces are now exceptionally hard to find.
